Major Lance had some great novelty/dance tunes and soul ballads in the mid-'60s, most of them written and/or produced by
Curtis Mayfield. This album collected them all and showed very quickly that
Lance wasn't an album act. He was ideal for the single; he could deliver a short, inspiring performance around a tight, unambitious central concept, be it a dance step or a love affair. It's no surprise that two of his three biggest-selling albums were hit anthologies.
