Album Review

The obscure Jazz Mark LP Danish Brew is a compilation of selections from excerpts from televised performances and concerts featuring tenor saxophonists Brew Moore and Don Byas, both individually and together. Since neither recorded as a leader as frequently as he should have, these recordings will be special of interest to fans of bop and cool. Moore's style is heavily influenced by Young, though he isn't adverse to playing with force, as heard on his brisk rendition of "Take the 'A' Train." Byas joins Moore for an intense workout of "Lester Leaps In," though Don's powerful attack easily eclipses Brew. The final two tracks feature Byas alone with a rhythm section, with big-toned interpretations of "There Will Never Be Another You" and "Don't Blame Me."
