Doctor Father was a recording alias utilized by
Eric Stewart,
Kevin Godley, and
Lol Creme for the release of the single "Umbopo" b/w "Roll On" in the summer of 1970. The three had previously enjoyed a number two U.K. hit with "Neanderthal Man" under the alias
Hotlegs, and had decided to do a rewrite of "There Ain't No Umbopo," a number that they had previously provided to the production team of
Jerry Kasanetz and
Jeff Katz as part of a songwriting/production contract (with the release credited to
Crazy Elephant). The record failed to repeat the success of the
Hotlegs release -- despite Radio Northsea picking up the single for heavy airplay, and despite the fact that it was the work of the same people from beginning to end who had a hit with "Neanderthal Man" -- and
Doctor Father disappeared.
