A fine drummer, Danny D'Imperio
is best-known for his leadership and recordings with the Metropolitan Bopera House
and his own groups. He picked up early experience playing with the Glenn Miller
ghost band (1970-1972) and two years apiece with the orchestras of Maynard Ferguson
and Woody Herman
. He subbed for Buddy Rich
was ill in 1983, was the house drummer at Condon's, and has freelanced quite a bit, but it is his V.S.O.P. recordings (which often feature obscure bop and hard bop songs being revived with enthusiasm) that have given D'Imperio
a certain amount of fame.
