Although they only issued two studio albums during their brief yet highly influential career, The New York Dolls left a seemingly endless collection of demos and live recordings in their wake, as evidenced by a nonstop barrage of compilations. The 2001 edition of Dolls rarities was titled Archive and, as expected, focuses mostly on demos, with a few latter-day live recordings rounding out the 18-track set. While the quintet's 1973 self-titled debut is unquestionably one of rock's all-time classics, fans who were lucky enough to catch the band during its Mercer Arts Center days knew that the group was a lot more raw and vibrant live -- much more so than the Todd Rundgren-produced debut let on. Read More
