A walk in the Park, Volume 266

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: I’m throwing something brand-spanking-new at you today from a California band that’s been a “new favourite” of mine over the past five years or so, DIRTY HEADS.  It’s easy to tell where they get their groove from, and I really like how they’re such a hybrid, but have carved out their own sound.  Their debut album, “Any Port In A Storm,” came out in ’08, and their fourth studio record, “Sound Of Change,” is due on July 8th.  Appropriately enough, the lead single is perfect for the season, so click the super-funky “play” button, and kick back with “MY SWEET SUMMER!”

Topic Of The Day: WHICH TEAM WILL WIN THE 2014 STANLEY CUP?  Get the official NHL buzz here, and put your pick for champs on the official Park Warden facebook page, or text to 666 666.
COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH: It’s been five months since the U.S. state of Colorado legalized Ganja for recreational use, and although there have definitely been a few speed bumps, things have “rolled” along fairly well.  There are tons of recent articles on the Herb debate, and for one “blunt” version, click here.  BTW, deaths from Weed, as claimed in the linked article?  Doubtful.  Show us some death certificates or autopsy reports that state “death from marijuana OD.”
FOR SPACE / SCIENCE GEEKS: I love anything to do with outer space, and if you like to channel your inner nerd from time-to-time, then check out just how much planet Jupiter influences our own planet Earth, here.
FIRST EVEREST, NOW RAINIER: Two months ago, several Sherpa guides died in an avalanche in the worst-ever one-day incident in the history of Mount Everest.  A little closer to home, six climbers are missing or presumed dead this weekend on Mount Rainier in Washington state.  I’m pretty sure the expedition company involved was also present at the Everest tragedy.  Sad days indeed, read about it here.
MARIO KART 8 REVIEW: If you’re a gamer who likes some old school action, then you’ve probably already played “Mario Kart 8″ a kazillion times and shared your expert opinion with the masses.  For anyone else who’s not quite so hardcore, and thinking about grabbing it, read a precise, short, professional review here.
U.S. DIRECTS MORE BUSINESS TO MEXICO: For the past several years, America has been doing booming business with China, mainly for the super-cheap products (quality, labor), but it looks like the tide is turning… Towards Mexico.  Doesn’t the United States hate Mexico?  Does China own the Americans?  Why the trend?  I don’t have the answers, but you can probably gain a little insight here.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR TOUR CANCELLED: I know the ladies like this kind of sh*t, but it really isn’t my bag… The big stage production of “Jesus Christ Superstar" (the tour) has been cancelled.  It was to span North America this Summer, beginning next week, but now it’s just “done.”  It was to star Brandon Boyd of INCUBUS, and John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) of the SEX PISTOLS.  Get Spin’s angle here, and the Edmonton report here.
FUN, FESTIVALS, ETC.: Indoor Custom And Rod Show (May 30 – June 1), Eek! Comic & Pop Culture Fest (May 31 – June 1), Drumheller DinoFest (June 13 – 15), Improvaganza (June 18 – 28), The Works Art & Design Festival (June 19 – July 1), Beaumont Blues & Roots Festival (June 20 – 22), Edmonton International Jazz Fest (June 20 – 29), Tail Creek Mud & Music Festival (June 27 – 29).
NHL STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS: Game seven of the NHL’s west conference final is tonight at 6:05pm Mountain time on CBC, with the Los Angeles Kings visiting the Chicago Blackhawks.  It’s do or die, and I think the Kings probably should have “done” in game six, because tonight won’t be easy.  The west champ moves on to the Stanley Cup final against the New York Rangers, beginning Wednesday night, stay posted with the official NHL site here.
EDMONTON ESKIMOS: Kicked off the 2014 training camp this morning at Commonwealth Stadium and they want to see fans there all week, so check their website for the schedule!  The B.C. Lions are here on Friday the 13th for the first pre-season home game, kickoff from Commonwealth Stadium is 7:05pm Mountain time.
FC EDMONTON: Were oh-so-close but lost 1-0 to the Fury FC after a 90th minute goal in Ottawa last night.  Next action is one week from today, with the Carolina Railhawks in town.  Kickoff from Commonwealth Stadium is 2:05pm Mountain time.
EDMONTON PROSPECTS: Wrap up their season-opening series against the Lethbridge Bulls this afternoon, they take the field at 2:05pm Mountain time.  Watch the game here, and check out the Prospects brand new cheerleading team here!
