A walk in the Park, Volume 276

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: Over the last couple of days, I’ve treated you to a couple different songs on the Electro end of the spectrum, so today we’re doing a 180 and bringing back the Metal.  There’s a story below about a music fan who suffered a severe brain injury ’cause he was banging his head too intensely at a recent concert by Metal legends, MOTÖRHEAD.  Who knew head-banging could be hazardous to your health?  Let’s share a 100% certified, triple-A, 5-star, Metal anthem, which also has one of the greatest videos ever, here, ha ha!  From the 1984 compilation album “No Remorse,” this is one of four previously-unreleased cuts from that record.  Strap on your helmet, click “play” and Metal It Up with KILLED BY DEATH.”

Topic Of The Day: WHAT’S THE MOST OF SOMETHING YOU’VE EVER EATEN IN ONE SESSION?  Check out yesterday’s annual “Hot Dog Championship” below, and share your pig-out stories on the official Park Warden facebook page, or text to 666 666.
HOT DOGS & ENGAGEMENT RINGS: Yesterday was Independence Day in the U.S., and every 4th of July, the world-famous “Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest” takes place in Coney Island, New York.  The world record holder, Joey Chestnut, was hoping to chomp down 70 dogs.  He didn’t, but still won anyway and got engaged before the festivities, bite into the story here.
BRAIN INJURY CAUSED BY HEAD-BANGING: I’m a firm believer in music and its positive influences on my life, but it looks like too much Metal could be unhealthy.  As mentioned above, a fan recently got a brain injury after too much head-banging at a Motörhead show.  Form your diagnosis on the side effects of Metal here.
CHINA CONSTRUCTING WORLD’S TALLEST TOWERS: It seems every year there’s a new “world’s tallest building,” and China is working on a pair of ‘em right now.  In a country known for its delicious but deadly lead paint, and its gross human rights atrocities, these towers will be surprisingly eco-friendly.  Deconstruct the details here.
FUN, FESTIVALS, FOOLERY: Calgary Stampede (July 4 – 13), International Street Performers Festival (July 4 – 13), Sand On Whyte (July 4 – 13), Taste Of Edmonton (July 17 – 26), K-Days (July 18 – 26).
WORLD CUP WIND DOWN: In quarter-final action today, it’s ARGENTINA vs. BELGIUM at 10am, and NETHERLANDS vs. COSTA RICA at 2pm, all matches Mountain time.  Stay posted with the tournament, its festivities, and the excitement through FIFA & CBC!
EDMONTON ESKIMOS: Won a sloppy affair against another crappy team last night, 28-24 against the Hamilton Ti-Sticks.  The Esks are now 2-0 to start a season for the first time in years.  Next up, the latest (doomed-to-fail) Ottawa franchise, the Red-Blacks are here on Friday night.  The action from Commonwealth Stadium begins at 8:05pm Mountain time.
FC EDMONTON: Return to NASL action one week from tomorrow after the World Cup break, and will be hosting the Ottawa Fury FC.  Kickoff at Clarke Stadium is 4:05pm Mountain time.
EDMONTON PROSPECTS: Play host this weekend to the Weyburn Beavers tonight, and the Lethbridge Bulls tomorrow & Monday, all start times are 7:05pm Mountain time, watch the games here.
