Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger has spoken out for the first time about his engagement to fellow Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne in a new interview with Hello! magazine. The couple began dating six months ago while working in the studio on songs for Lavigne's new album. Kroeger said, "I knew I was falling for her. It was incredibly powerful and something I'll never forget. I feel like the luckiest person alive because I get to be with my best friend every day!"

Lavigne added about her future hubby, "He makes me laugh every day. He takes care of me in every way and is extremely attentive." According to the magazine, Kroeger proposed to Lavigne in the studio as well. Lavigne was putting together a scrapbook and Kroeger slipped a page inside on which he wrote, "Will you marry me?" The 37-year-old Kroeger popped the question to the 27-year-old Lavigne earlier this month. The courtship was kept so quiet that very few people knew the two Canadians were actually dating.

This will be the first time that Kroeger walks down the aisle, and the second for Lavigne: she ended her marriage to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in 2009 after three years. Lavigne is putting the finishing touches on her new album, while Kroeger heads to Europe next month with his band for a massive fall tour. The couple has not yet announced a wedding date.
