LONG WEEKEND IS HERE...
...IF YOU GET ONE! It's the "Family Day" Long Weekend and if you're hangin' out with the kids or working, keep it on the Bear all weekend long to win tons of wicked prizes! If you're 21 or older, you could qualify for a "Once In A Lifetime" flyaway with DEF LEPPARD's "Viva Hysteria In Vegas," brought to you by the Bear and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The trip includes everything you need for a sinful Vegas getaway, and all the details are right here: www.TheBearRocks.com/Contests/Register.aspx?ContestID=168264. Plus, I have lots of tickets for some high-flyin' National Lacrosse League action with the Edmonton Rush hosting the Minnesota Swarm for "Bear Night" next Friday, February 22nd at Rexall Place. And, I have a ton of copies of the brand new album "King Of Conflict" by the Virginmarys too!
HUNDREDS OF SPACE ROCK... Yesterday was a wet dream come true for space nerds all over the globe. First off, it was the passing of Asteroid "2012 DA14," which has been well-documented over the past year. Basically, we knew this one was going to be a near-miss: it passed within 28,000 kms of Earth, and is the closest ever passing of an Asteroid in modern history. The Rock that blew everyone away though - literally - was a meteorite that exploded over Russia. This thing weighed about 10,000 tonnes, and the explosion was almost 30 times more powerful than the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima in World War II. It landed in a lake but divers still haven't found anything, even though there's a 30 foot hole in the ice at the impact site! That fact is fuelling tons of conspiracy theories, read more about these completely coincidental space spectacles here: www.CBC.ca/news/technology/story/2013/02/14/science-asteroid-da14-flyby.html and here: www.NYpost.com/p/news/international/it_came_from_outer_space_VyfsUXfTKMGPwN1IBoOXEM. Apparently there were lots of huge meteorites / fireballs spotted all over the globe throughout the past week: http://TheWatchers.adorraeli.com/2013/02/16/in-last-2-days-fireballs-were-reported-all-over-the-world-sweden-netherlands-russia-japan-cuba and: http://BeforeItsNews.com/earthquakes/2013/02/exploding-fireballs-reported-all-over-the-globe-japan-russia-cuba-2449522.html. I've also attached a couple audio clips about the space rock from CBC News Network, you can click & listen at the top of this blog page.
POTHOLES POUNDING DRIVERS... We've all had experiences with "Pothole Season" here in Edmonton, but I think this year is the worst I've ever seen! They seem to be bigger and more plentiful. I've already had to repair two tires / wheels, and I've always wondered if the city should be responsible for my bills. After some digging, I've found out that you actually can get reimbursed by the city but there are, of course, "conditions." Basically, if you call and tell them about a major pothole that they're already aware of, you may get some compensation, but if the pothole hasn't been reported yet, the city says they're not repsonsible because they haven't had a chance to fix it yet. They're just covering their financial ass(es).
