A walk in the Park, Volume 301

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: There’s been a lot of throwback stuff that I’ve been sharing lately, so today we’re going to hit on something that came out at the beginning of this year, and the first time I heard it I knew I really liked it, but couldn’t figure out exactly why.  Still can’t, but that doesn’t matter… The tune from this Brooklyn NY band is like a smell or taste you love, but can’t quite describe.  It’s BEAR HANDS, from the “Distraction” album, click the link for “GIANTS,” and check out their Soundcloud channel here.

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: I like to keep a lot of variety in the music / artists I feature on this blog and one band I’ve never written about is RADIOHEAD.  They were considered “Alt-Gods” from the mid to late-90′s and even though they continue to make music and buck / set trends in the music industry, they’ve been relatively quiet over the past few years.  The band has had some amazing songs like “Creep” & “Paranoid Android,” but the tune I’m sharing with you today is one of Radiohead’s lesser-known cuts.  This track intrigues me purely because of the video, in which singer Thom Yorke holds his breathe in water for almost a minute, then finishes “singing” the song; don’t let the teeth bother you.  From the highly influential 1997 album, “OK Computer,” hit the link for “NO SURPRISES.”

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: Today marks the 37th anniversary of the death of arguably the most iconic figure in the history of entertainment, ELVIS PRESLEY.  “The King” was 42 years old when he died, and you’d be hard-pressed to find any musician who would understate the importance of Elvis’ legacy in the world of music.  You can Google a billion articles & read what you want, but while you’re doing that, check out some “Modern” remixes of a couple Presley songs with A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION & RUBBERNECKIN‘ along with a very foolish 1969 version of “ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT,” where Elvis can’t stop laughing!  Check his Wikipedia link here, and his Facebook page here.

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: Let’s go back to the first NINE INCH NAILS album, 1989′s “Pretty Hate Machine,” for today’s feature.  The record was written, arranged, and performed by Trent Reznor, and it really did pave the way for so-called “Industrial music” (for lack of a better term).  NIN are on tour right now with Soundgarden, and they’ll be in Portland OR, and Seattle WA, at the end of August.  Now, hit the link and rock out with “HEAD LIKE A HOLE.”

A walk in the Park, Volume 297

DAILY WARDEN TRACK: Today we’re going to continue with a bit of a theme that I inadvertently began yesterday… On blog #296 I featured “Big Bang Baby” by Stone Temple Pilots, and also mentioned the three main actors from TV’s “Big Bang Theory” getting raises.  So today I’m sharing a song with a very similar title to the aforementioned tune & TV show.  The track is from one of the many projects with Armand Van Helden, whose comic-genius finds its way into many of his tunes.  This one in particular is from his collaboration with A-Trak, called DUCK SAUCE, and even though the song is absolute foolery, the video takes it to completely new levels!  Hit the link and get your stomach ready for hundreds of belly laughter with “BIG BAD WOLF.”
