Using traditional jug band instruments, Strangers With Candy's sound is anything but amateurish. Covering a fine variety of early country blues songs, from Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain" to Blind Boy Fuller's "Black an' Tan," the renditions inject a smooth jazzy quality. Some tracks definitely maintain a rather impromptu string band feel, such as "Dirty Cad" and "Rocky Island," with the featured vocalists capable of utilizing anything from raspy growls to silky croons.
