Led by former Burning Sensations keyboardist Morley Bartnoff, the Los Angeles-based power pop band Cosmo Topper (the name is taken from the classic book, movie, and '50s TV series) also features Probyn Gregory (Brian Wilson, the Eels) on guitar, horns, and vocals; Brian Mastalski on bass (former Box the Walls); Brian Glascock on drums (an original member of the Motels); while Bartnoff also supplies vocals, lyrics, and guitars, in addition to his main instrument. Instead of signing with an already established label, the fledgling band decided to take matters into their own hands, forming their own label, Morley Road Records, and issuing their debut album on it, Pure East Vibration, receiving comparisons to such renowned artists as the Beatles and the Moody Blues. Harkening back to the age of vinyl records, Pure East Vibration is a concept album that is broken down into a side one (entitled Creation Theory) and a side two (Spellacaster). In 2001, Bartnoff contributed music (as well as penning the theme) for the internet cartoon Animal Hospital. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
