Alternative pop singer/songwriter Jonathan Balas was born and raised in Los Angeles, briefly studying piano before moving to guitar as a teen. His parents later bought him a four-track recorder, and after cutting his first three-song demo, the 18 year old relocated to Seattle to intern at Robert Lang Studios. From there Balas moved on to Nashville, where the band Exit East recorded his song "I Will Save You." Capitalizing on the then-current MySpace craze, Balas scored a word-of-mouth Internet hit in late 2005 with an MP3 of his song "California Here I Go." The song later appeared on MTV's hit Laguna Beach, and was instrumental in generating buzz for the 2006 release of Balas' debut LP. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
